Horton Smith Bob Jones Award Plaque, USGA, Awarded To Horton Smith, In Recognition Of Distinguished Sportsmanship In Golf, Presented By The USGA To Commemorate The Vast Contributions To The Cause Of Fair Play Made By Robert Tyre Jones, Jr., Awarded To Horton Smith, 1962.Reverse carries manufacturers identification Made by Medallic Art Company, New York. The 10 1/2" x 10 1/2" plaque with raised relief of Bobby Jones presents with limited wear from display. “Presented since 1955, the Bob Jones Award highlights the most noteworthy demonstrations of sportsmanship in golf, and celebrates those individuals who, in the spirit of its namesake, have displayed character, integrity and respect while playing the game. Beyond his playing career—with a record-tying nine USGA championship titles—Jones embodied the game’s values throughout his life.” This is the official language from the USGA. Now a little about the playing career of Horton Smith who turned pro at 18 years old in 1926. Over his Hall of Fame career, he would win 32 tournaments highlighted by Masters wins in 1934 and '36. Here is what his contemporaries said of his golf career. Paul Runyan, "Horton Smith was the best putter I've ever seen. To mention anyone else in the same breath is a travesty." and what Bobby Jones said of his friend," Horton has the fiercest and most belligerent dedication to golf of anyone I've ever known. There is no way to measure what he has done for the game." This is an extremely attractive award, simply put one of the finest presentation pieces ever offered for career achievement in golf. All items that have received multiple bids in the auction will remain open until no items have received a bid within a 15 minute time period (at 10pm EST, the countdown clock will be adjusted to a 5 minute interval). 1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins in order to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots that are active in extended bidding will close at the same time, and those with only ONE or NO BIDS will close at 9pm EST
