Here lies the 1901-02 Upper India Golf Challenge Shield Sterling Silver Cig. Holder Runner-Up Prize. Regarding the 36 hole Championship tournament's prize structure - "The winner will have his name inscribed on the Club Silver Challenge Shield, and receive a commemorative medal, value at 100 rupees. The runner up to receive a prize, value 50 rupees."
Featuring an old-time golfer relief on the front, seven silver hallmarks on the inside and the engraving "Challenge Shield 1901-2" on the pieces reverse, there was much time and effort that went into this prize. Gulmerg, Kashmir was the tournament's location. Condition of this piece is very good, with small inconsistencies in the holder's top right back corner, not affecting presentation. 3 1/4" x 3 1/2"
