1930 US Amateur at Merion Golf Club Ticket #2829 - Bobby Jones Grand Slam
Offered in this lot we have a 1930 ticket from the fourth and final leg of the Grand Slam of Majors won by Bobby Jones. George Trevor sportswriter for the New York Sun would phrase Jones' four Major triumphs in 1930 as such, "stormed the impregnable quadrilateral of golf." This is one of the tougher golf tickets to locate in any condition, and like Jones' performance in 1930, this one excels. Ticket remains in near mint condition with strong black printing and tight edges. The Merion red bell-shaped ticket comes with its original string similar in condition to its original issuing almost exactly 90 years ago when it was purchased for $2.00 to gain admission. 'Merion Cricket Club - Ardmore Avenue, Ardmore Pa.' is written in black print on the front of the ticket. AG Spalding & Bros. included an advertisement on the reverse. There is very little overall wear, mentioned only for accuracy purposes. Please see several photos to the left which will give the bidder a better understanding of this seldom seen ticket. This ticket is a remarkable survivor that has escaped the ravages of time. The gold standard for golf tickets and Bobby Jones collections.
