Horton Smith 1934 Masters Win Final Rd First Hole Tee Shot Original ACME Wire Photo 3/27/1934
Horton Smith surrounded by crowd is captured in this 9 1/8" x 7" ACME wire photo of his tee shot to start the final round of the 1934 inaugural Masters. As noted on the verso caption dated 3/27/34, Smith would go on to shoot 72 that day for an aggregate score of 272 in winning the tournament. Photo remains in crisp, clear condition with four strong corners. Reverse contains cutline and standard photo stampings and datings of 1934. The best explanation of how this photograph came to be comes from Masters official photographer Frank Christian in his book on page 103 of "Augusta National & The Masters A Photographer's Scrapbook" Frank writes about his father the photographer for the Augusta National -"In those days, my father supplied photographs to Acme Photo Service in New York. We hurried to take shots in the mornings, then developed the film and made prints, which we sent by telephone lines using an electronic drum that transmitted the image. My father would also write cutlines for each photo, and send that information with the image. In the afternoons, we would concentrate on the leaders, taking their photographs and preparing the prints for transmission that night or early the next morning."

1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots that are active in extended bidding will close at the same time, and those with only ONE or NO BIDS will close at 9pm EST
