Ben Hogan's Personal 1953 Hogan Day Fort Worth Medallion/Placard - On Return From British Open Win

In 1953 before the largest gallery in Open history, Ben Hogan's Sunday round 68 was a new single round record at Carnoustie, and his 72 hole score of 282 was also the best in a British Open Championship. Hogan had claimed his third straight Major title of the year. He returned to the States for a New York ticker tape parade which was followed by a similar parade in his hometown of Fort Worth on Monday July 27th. This day was proclaimed Ben Hogan Day with that days parade being followed by a host of dignitaries lauding Hogan at the Hotel Texas. A 4" diameter (which appears with untouched tarnish of the ages) from that day is offered in this lot. Outside of Ben, the star of the day was his local pastor who praised the courage of Hogan when he said, "If there is anything more remarkable then Ben Hogan the golfer," Walker concluded, "it is Ben Hogan the man."
