Original Young Tom Morris 'St. Andrews’ Painting by Artist Bill Waugh - 1990

Esteemed golf artist Bill Waugh captured a posed Young Tom Morris holding a wing of his suit coat in effort to put his awarded Challenge Belt on full display with paint on canvas in this lot. With vivid color, Waugh used Swilcan Bridge and the R & A Clubhouse as a powerful backdrop to the three-time Champion Golfer of the Year. Please note that the “circa 1880” written on the back is in reference to the clubhouse and town, and not Young Tom. R&A's Open Championship rules included the very clear plan to retire the 1st prize Challenge Belt under the circumstances that one individual wins the premiere tournament championship three times in a row. While they didn't envision that happening, it did. Young Tom Morris, son of fellow Champion Golfer of the Year Old Tom Morris, was victorious in 1868, 1869 and 1870. He proudly wears his belt in which was now a permanent possession and no longer a "rotating trophy." 20" x 20"

The clock will extend 30-minutes from the time of the most recently placed bid for that lot. If no bids are placed on that lot during a 30-minute period, the lot will close. Place your bids now!

1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots with only ONE or NO BIDS will close at 9pm ET
