Gary Player Signed 1974 Masters Tournament Winning Worn Harbour Island Hat - Wow!

The April 22, 1974 issue of Sports Illustrated was the publication's Masters Tournament recap, appropriately titled "Return of an Old Master - Gary Player Wins Again." It featured a close up shot of a focused and determined Black Knight post swing donning his patent jet black shirt and glove and a white hat. Upon further examination of that white hat worn in Gary Player's final victory you will see a blue and yellow circular patch with a red and white lighthouse in the center. 1974 was after all a time in which top golfer Gary Player started exploring other ways to give back to the game of golf, and while wining both the Masters Tournament and Open Championship that year he also designed completed his first golf course design. Hilton Head Island, South Carolina would be the chosen land for his Dolphin Head Gold Club location, not far away from Harbour Island. The year of 1974 would also be in the inaugural class of Golf Hall of Fame in Pinehurst, including the Black Knight of course. Remarkably Gary Player's actual 1974 Masters Tournament winning Harbour Island hat is presented in this lot for bidding consideration. In time-period ballpoint pen Gary Player inscribed the top side of its brim with a nod to the triumph: "To Dan - Proud to have worn this cap in my victory - Gary Player." As you might have guessed, this hat shows wear to be expected from the victorious round of usage in that first week of April and storage for the 48 years since. Revered as an item of 'Player' memorabilia, this relic carries weight throughout the world of sports collectibles.
