Attributed To Champion Tom Watson's 1980 Win @ San Diego Open Invitational Andy Williams Trophy
Tom Watson closed out the Andy Williams-San Diego Open Invitational on January 27, 1980 with an even 70 after three rounds in the 60's of 68-69-68 for his 19th win on the PGA Tour. Tom had to earn it, winning on an extra playoff hole over D.A. Weilbring. Presented here is the hardware attributed to Watson receiving his first of an astounding seven wins he would tally on the tour in 1980, including the Open Championship at Muirfield. Clear engraving includes the full tournament name above "Champion Tom Watson." Trophies attributed to one of the greatest champions in golf in Tom Watson do not come up for public consumption often, if ever, and this comes after years of display in the Newport Sports Museum!
The San Diego open has had several names over the years, Andy Williams San Diego invitational (70’s), Buick Invitational and currently called The Farmers Insurance. Each Year John Hamilton of the Newport Sports Museum and his supporters would reach out to the champion and request a club or putter used to win the tournament, in this case he got the trophy! John’s Newport Sports Museum opened in 1995 and remained open to 2014 when it shut its doors. John’s collecting started in 1953 and he had many supporters that helped get him access to winning players and teams to amass his great collection. Items from the Newport Sports Museum are always of the utmost authenticity and were normally obtained directly from the player or team by John or his large group of supporters in the world of sports. 16" x 13 1/4"

Place your bids now as this auction will close LOT BY LOT beginning at 10:00pm ET Sunday, September 26th. When placing INITIAL bid in the auction, you must agree to the terms BEFORE confirming your bid. All items with multiple bids in the auction will be eligible for the extended bidding period. Each lot will have its OWN COUNTDOWN CLOCK set for a 30-minute interval, and the clock will extend 30-minutes from the time of the most recently placed bid for that lot. If no bids are placed on that lot during a 30-minute period, the lot will close. Place your bids now!
1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots with only ONE or NO BIDS will automatically close at 10pm ET
4. All available lots will begin closing on a LOT BY LOT basis at 10pm ET
**Once extended bidding starts at 10pm ET, each lot will then begin closing with its own 30-minute countdown timer. Lots without a bid during extended bidding will close at 10:30pm ET. We recommend you place your maximum bid(s) prior to that time. Thank you**
