Ed Fiori's 1980 Masters Tournament Hole No. 8 Crystal Steuben Eagle Glass

Along with other traditions such as the Crystal Vase for the low score of the day, Hole-In-One, and a Double Eagle; the Steuben Crystal Highball Glasses are given to a competitor who succeeds in scoring an eagle on any one of the holes at Augusta National during the Masters Tournament. This tradition dates to the 1954 tournament, when the Augusta National presented these glasses of achievement for the first time. Over The Golf Auction's 11 years of business we have only had a handful of these highly collectible awards. Offered here for consideration is Ed Fiori's crystal highball glass in near mint condition, with all etchings on glass well preserved, in similar fashion to the day it was presented at the 1980 Masters Tournament. Fiori made an eagle in '80 on the 8th hole at Augusta. It measures approximately 6 1/2" tall. A signed letter of provenance from Ed Fiori will come with this lot.

'If you want something enough you can get it', is how the old saying goes. A youngster in the Los Angeles Suburb of Downey, California took it upon himself to get some work in at the local 9-hole golf course. It would be through a barbed wire fence that Ed Fiori would gain entry to that course in the early 1960's. Fast-forward over thirty years and Fiori found himself on the same tee box as the newly professional 20-year-old Tiger Woods in the final round of the PGA Tour's Quad City Classic. Holding the trophy at the end of that day and denying the dazzling Woods his first professional win was all worth it. It would be one of four trophies that Ed Fiori would hoist after his University of Houston collegiate career. The 1979 Southern Open, 1981 Western Open, 1982 Bob Hope Desert Classic and last, but not least, the 1996 Quad City Classic tied up a successful golfing career at the hands of "The Grip." That nickname came naturally to him, as he squeezed the club significantly harder than his tour cohorts. While small in stature at 5'7," Fiori would leave a large golfing legacy when he took down Tiger Woods, which until 2009, would be the only 54-hole lead snatched away from Woods. The Ed Fiori Collection includes prized possessions earned from his sticktoitiveness on the PGA Tour scattered with triumphs along the way.

When placing INITIAL bid in the auction, you must agree to the terms BEFORE confirming your bid. All items with multiple bids in the auction will be eligible for the extended bidding period. Each lot will have its OWN COUNTDOWN CLOCK set for a 30-minute interval, and the clock will extend 30-minutes from the time of the most recently placed bid for that lot. If no bids are placed on that lot during a 30-minute period, the lot will close. Place your bids now!
