1914 Tatnuck Country Club Sterling Silver Trophy Presented by Mrs. Matthew J. Whittall Won By Martha O. Swan

This Donald Ross design course was opened in 1898, representing one of the first 100 courses to open in the United States. The trophy in this lot was presented on behalf of the club by Mrs. Matthew J. Whittall to Martha O. Swan. It is 6 3/4" tall and contains 4.98oz of silver. "Sterling" hallmark is located on the bottom of the trophy.

The Win Padgett Collection

Win Padgett, prestigious USGA Ike Granger Award recipient in appreciation of 25 years of service to the association and co-founder of the Society of Hickory Golfers in 2000, would now like to offer his esteemed collection to the public through his good friend Curt Sampson in hopes that it is enjoyed as much as he did. Both a longstanding and well-respected member of The Golf Heritage Society, Padgett’s discerning eye for golf collectibles and appreciation for the history of the game are greatly apparent when reviewing his assembly of artifacts that include many golf trophies coined in the ‘Golden Age of Golf.’

“During a long and distinguished career in golf and business, Win Padgett collected friends and golf antiques in equal measure,” Curt Sampson, accomplished author of 18 books including titles “Hogan” and “The War By The Shore: The Incomparable Drama of the 1991 Ryder Cup” gleefully remarked one of the men who knows Win best. Padgett’s awe-inspiring resume began prior to his golf collecting. Princeton graduate Padgett, is a combat veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served aboard destroyers. Virtually all Win’s friends refer to him with the same phrase: “nicest man I ever met.” In recognition of the impact Win had not only on the game of golf, but the golfing community, The Golf Auction proudly presents The Win Padgett Collection.
