Champion Payne Stewart's Personal 1991 US Open at Hazeltine Golf Club Contestant License Plate #187
Taking eventual champion Payne Stewart to and fro the site of the 1991 US Open Hazeltine Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota from his lodging accommodations was courtesy car #148 that second weekend in June. The license plate from that vehicle was removed and given to Payne upon conclusion, his first US Open win. Two stickers with the car number are on either side of this used license plate, flanking the logo. The 1991 edition of The US Open proved to play out as the USGA and fans had hoped for, with a closely contested tournament that was decided after an extra day of golf and a duel between tour stars and major winners Payne Stewart and Scott Simpson. Midwesterner, Springfield, Missouri native Payne Stewart outlasted 1987 US champion Scott Simpson in an 18-hole Monday playoff in the Minneapolis suburb of Chaska, Minnesota for his second major in the region (first outside of Chicago at Kemper Lakes) and first of his two U.S. Open titles. His playoff round of 75 would be two lower than Simpson's. A triumphant fist pump from Stewart donning a red and white striped NFL Super Bowl shirt and one 'FORE' cleat off of the ground remains the memorable still from the tournament.

When placing INITIAL bid in the auction, you must agree to the terms BEFORE confirming your bid. All items with multiple bids in the auction will be eligible for the extended bidding period. Each lot will have its OWN COUNTDOWN CLOCK set for a 30-minute interval, and the clock will extend 30-minutes from the time of the most recently placed bid for that lot. If no bids are placed on that lot during a 30-minute period, the lot will close. Place your bids now!
1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots with only ONE or NO BIDS will automatically close at 10pm ET
4. All available lots will begin closing on a LOT BY LOT basis at 10pm ET
**Once extended bidding starts at 10pm ET, each lot will then begin closing with its own 30-minute countdown timer. Lots without a bid during extended bidding will close at 10:30pm ET. We recommend you place your maximum bid(s) prior to that time. Thank you**
