1974 Tournament Players Championship at Atlanta Contry Club Lt Blue Hat with Circle Patch - Size L
The Players Championship, or The Players for short, is an annual golf tournament on the PGA Tour. The tournament began 1974 and was held at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Georgia. The location of the tournament moved to different country clubs for the next few years. In 1982 the tournament was played at TPC Sawgrass, where it has been played ever since. For many years, the Players Championship offered the highest prize fund of any tournament in golf until 2017 when it was overtaken by the U.S. Open. The field usually includes the top 50 players in the world rankings, but unlike the three major championships or two World Golf Championships events staged in the United States, it is not an official event on the European Tour.
