Gary Player, a champion from South Africa won 163 tournaments worldwide. These included Masters (1961-1974-1978), U S Open (1965), British Open (1959-1968-1974) and PGA Championship (1962-1972)
For the second time in the 10-year history of the PGA Championship being contested through stroke play, Don January was involved in a playoff to decide the champion. Played in the thin, mile high Colorado atmosphere, two lowland neighbors from Dallas Texas, in January and Don Massengale, adapted nicely to the rarified air to come down to the wire deadlocked at 281. Even though January had lost the 1961 PGA Championship in the first ever playoff, he proved the steadier of the two in an 18-hole playoff, with a 3-under 69 to Massengale's 71
Julius Boros was a Hungarian-American professional golfer. Boros won 18 PGA Tour events, including three major championships: the 1952 and 1963 U.S. Opens and the 1968 PGA Championship.
