This lot comprises a collection of books, media, and business ephemera focused on the careers of professional golfers Bobby Jones and Ben Hogan. The central item is the biography Life & Times of Bobby Jones: Portrait of a Gentleman by Sidney L. Matthew, published by I.Q. Press in 1995. This volume is a Special Collector's Edition, bound in calfskin leather with a pictorial dust jacket, and is identified as number 67 of a limited printing of 650 copies commemorating the 65th anniversary of Jones's Grand Slam. The limitation page features the original signatures of author Sidney L. Matthew and Robert Tyre Jones IV, the golfer's grandson. The book is heavily illustrated with black and white photographs and includes a replica of Jones's personal library bookplate.
Also included is The Wit & Wisdom of Bobby Jones, edited by Sidney L. Matthew and published by Clock Tower Press in 2003. This hardcover volume with a dust jacket features a handwritten inscription on the half-title page: FOR FRED SIMMONS with best personal regards Sidney Matthew. An interior illustration by Ed Lloyd on page vii is signed and dated Ed Lloyd 05 in blue ink.
The lot further contains a SyberVision Bobby Jones How I Play Golf Limited Collector's Edition VHS set housed in a green vinyl clamshell case. This set includes two videocassettes containing eighteen instructional films originally produced by Warner Brothers in the early 1930s. The set includes a Certificate of Authenticity numbered 9911 and internal promotional materials.
Completing the collection is a plastic comb-bound business document from the National Golf Archive titled A Hard Case From Texas: The Life and Times of Ben Hogan Video/Audio Documentary. This document is a confidential private placement memorandum and partnership agreement for a documentary project, containing detailed risk factors, marketing strategies, and financial projections related to the production.
