November 1927 Issue of The American Golfer Magazine Edited by Grantland Rice
The American Golfer magazine, dated November 1927. The publication is prominently noted as being edited by the sportswriter Grantland Rice and carried an original retail price of 25 cents. The front cover features a color illustration depicting two golfers with one bearing resemblance to Walter Hagen on the green with a mountainous background and a large gallery of spectators. The artwork is signed with the initials G.H.M. in the lower left corner. Internal content includes a promotional feature for the Los Angeles Open held in January 1928, sponsored by the Los Angeles Junior Chamber of Commerce, and a photographic feature titled In the Thick of the Fray at Del Monte. This spread highlights regional golf stars including Donald Moe, Charles Hunter, Johnny McHugh, and Helen Lawson. The issue also includes a travel feature on Miami golf courses and period advertisements for MacGregor golf clubs and Pennsylvania Quality Lawn Mowers. Almost 100 year issue remains in at least very good condition.
