President Dwight D. Eisenhower Gifted Putter from Nassau County Council - June 19, 1954
Breaking News! After an extensive search delving through both nationwide and local newspaper archives, the Rochester, New York based 'Democrat and Chronicle' Sunday newspaper yielded not only a photo of Dwight D. Eisenhower with this very putter in his hands, but a corresponding caption and article of support featuring this "golden headed putter" in which he promised to try out at the marine base course in Quantico, Virginia. Eisenhower even joked about the prospect of "one-putt greens" while using it during the presentation on the White House lawn. It was a once-in-a-lifetime trip to meet the President and five-star general Dwight D. Eisenhower for 87 politically active members of the Nassau County youth that didn't go to the White House empty-handed. This newspaper clip was isolated from remainder of the page and resides digitally in photo two for photographic and textual reference. There even appears to be a very small dark break in the putter between the shaft and head for the ferrele of this putter!
"A New Putter - President Eisenhower takes tentative swing with a golden-headed putter given to him yesterday by 87 Nassau County Republican Recruits." "President Eisenhower got a new putter today and promised to try it out on the golf course at Guantico, Va., later in the day" The June 20, 1954 Democrat and Chronicle Sunday newspaper reported. "It was presented to him at the White House by a group of teenagers representing the Nassau County, NY Republican Recruits Inc." "I'll let you know whether I have any one-putt greens," the President said in thanking the donors. He received the group on the White House lawn shortly before leaving for the marine base at Quantico to attend a meeting of administration defense officials here."
