Rory McIlroy Signed Red Taylormade Spider Tour Putter w/Head Cover
Rory McIlroy signed with TaylorMade in 2017. What did McIlroy have in his bag at The Masters 8 years later for the most significant victory of his career and entrance into the Grand Slam Club? The Taylormade Spider mallet putter. Just slightly different than the 'X' model gamer with a torched finish, this vibrant red example offers excellent contrast with McIlroy's silver marker signature on the top of the mallet head. Signed clubs have long been somewhat of an anomaly in golf collecting, especially considering the other mediums. Why? Bringing a club to a tournament through security to get signed is far from normal practice. This signed putter is from when our consignor played with Rory in his foursome at the BMW Championship in Chicago in 2021. Heightened access indeed.
A little more about the putter itself from the Taylormade website's Spider Tour Red's write-up. "State of art design blending lightweight 6061 aluminum core with heavy 304 Stainless Steel perimeter. The design promotes increased stability while preserving ball speed on putts struck towards the heel or toe for a more consistent overall performance. Tour-proven white center sight line on top of mallet head. Roll insert in face composed of soft surlyn material with 45 degree grooves for immediate end-over-end roll with smooth and responsive feel."
Known for his Spider putter, this Rory McIlroy hand-signed example is a special one that was made even more special at this year's Masters in which he joined the hallowed modern Grand Slam Club, the first time those doors have opened in 35 years. Accompanying the putter is its original like branded headcover.
