Royal Doulton Golf Series Ware Rectangular Ceramic Tray
This rectangular ceramic tray is an example of the Royal Doulton Golfers series ware, featuring illustrations in the style of Charles Crombie. The piece is constructed with a scalloped, molded rim highlighted by a dark-painted border. The central transfer-printed decoration depicts three figures in 17th-century dress on a golf green, set against a stylized landscape with trees and sand traps. The tray includes the printed proverb: ALL FOOLS ARE NOT KNAVES, BUT ALL KNAVES ARE FOOLS. The underside bears a green-printed Royal Doulton maker mark featuring a lion standing upon a crown above a circular stamp with the text MADE IN ENGLAND ROYAL DOULTON ENGLAND surrounding an interlocking D motif. Additional markings on the base include a circled S and the number 23. Size 9" x 7".
