Standard Golf Co. Braid-Mills 1915 Model Aluminum Mallet Putter with Hickory Shaft
This is a Braid-Mills 1915 Model mallet-style golf putter produced by the Standard Golf Company of Sunderland, England. The club features a center-shafted aluminum alloy head with a dark, naturally aged patina. The club face is characterized by a deeply incised cross-hatched grid pattern designed to improve ball contact. The head is fitted with a traditional hickory wood shaft secured with black cord whipping at the hosel. The grip is a classic dark leather wrap finished with black whipping at both ends. The top of the head features a circular stamped maker mark that reads STANDARD GOLF Co around the top arc, MILLS and PATENT in the center, and SUNDERLAND around the bottom arc. The sole of the head is stamped with the model name BRAID-MILLS and 1915 MODEL. Additional technical markings on the sole include X UPRIGHT L E and the specific head weight. This model is a notable early 20th-century design associated with legendary Scottish golfer James Braid.
The putter is in vintage condition. The aluminum head shows significant oxidation, surface pitting, and general wear consistent with age and field use. The hickory shaft remains intact with minor nicks and surface scratches. The leather grip is dry and exhibits surface cracking and wear. The cord whipping remains tight but shows some aging and minor fraying.
