A first edition of The Golfer's Alphabet, a classic work of turn-of-the-century golf humor. The book features rhymes by W. G. Van T. Sutphen and numerous full-page black and white line illustrations by the notable sporting artist A. B. Frost. Published in a square quarto format by Harper and Brothers of New York and London, the title page is dated 1899 with a copyright date of 1898 on the verso. The volume is bound in green paper-covered pictorial boards featuring a black-printed illustration of a golfer on the front cover and an advertisement for Sutphen's book The Golficide on the back cover. The interior includes twenty-six full-page plates corresponding to the letters of the alphabet, each accompanied by a humorous verse on the facing page. A pencil signature reading J W Keith is present on a preliminary blank leaf.
