Two 1920s Golf Items Featuring Marion Hollins Original Press Photo and Multi-Signed Autograph Card
This lot features two original items relating to pioneering golfer and golf course developer Marion Hollins. The first item is a vintage silver gelatin press photograph produced by Underwood & Underwood of New York City. The label identifies the location as the 1927 Women's Long Island Golf Championship held at Timber Point Golf Club in Great River, Long Island, and notes Hollins as the leading contestant. The second item is a double-sided cream-colored autograph card. The obverse is signed in pencil by Marion Hollins and inscribed U.S.A. The reverse features pencil signatures from two additional contemporary golfers: prominent English champion Enid Wilson, inscribed Notts, and Margaret P. Walton. The card contains handwritten collector annotations in black ink on both sides reading Ladies' Championship 1929. Hollins was the 1921 U.S. Women's Amateur Champion and a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, recognized for her athletic achievements and her role in developing world-class courses including Cypress Point and Pasatiempo where she hired Alister Mackenzie to design the courses. James Spence Authentication has reviewed this signature and a JSA ALOA will accompany this lot.
