Two Pieces of Craig Wood Golf Memorabilia Including 1929 Associated Press Photograph and Circa 1935 Dunlop Instructional Pamphlet
This lot contains two vintage items associated with World Golf Hall of Fame member Craig Wood. The first item is an instructional fold-out pamphlet titled Swinging Thru: How to Play Golf by Craig Wood, published by the Sports Department of Dunlop Tire and Rubber Co. in Buffalo, New York. The booklet features photographic swing sequences of Wood demonstrating various woods and irons, along with specific sections for trap shots, chip shots, and putting. It includes an introduction by Vincent Richards, General Manager of the Sports Department at Dunlop. The back pages contain advertisements for Dunlop golf balls including the Imported Dunlop, Dunlop Dunlop, Dunlop Red, Dunlop Nimble, and the 1935 Gold Cup ball. The back cover is printed with a Wood-Club Check-Up List for evaluation against Wood's technique. The second item is an original black and white silver gelatin Associated Press press photograph from 1929. The image depicts Wood in period golf attire including knickers and a cardigan, holding a golf club and what appears to be a check or scorecard. The reverse of the photograph features a typed caption slip dated 1-19-29 and an Associated Press credit stamp. The caption details Wood's victory at the 4,000 dollar Pasadena Open tournament over a field of players including Walter Hagen and Tommy Armour.
