Two Silver Gelatin Photographs of Gene Sarazen and Walter Hagen Including One Signed Example
This lot features two black and white silver gelatin photographs of professional golfers Gene Sarazen and Walter Hagen. The first photograph is a modern silver gelatin print of an earlier image, depicting Sarazen on the left and Hagen on the right standing on a golf course in knickers and cardigans. The photograph is signed in black ink at the lower left Gene Sarazen and is handwritten with the date 1985- at the lower right. The verso of this print is plain white and unmarked. The second photograph is a vintage silver gelatin press print from the early-to-mid 20th century showing the two men standing near a tee marker. A sign in the mid-ground reads NO 1 SPRING 6 - YDS. The reverse side of the vintage print features a blue ink stamp from a press agency reading FOTOGRAMS NEWS PHOTO SERVICE 129 E. 27th ST., N.Y.C. Several spots of black adhesive residue are present on the reverse, where the photo was likely previously mounted in an album or display.
