Vintage Burke Harry Vardon Special Monel Metal Mongrel Iron Hickory Shafted Golf Club
This vintage golf club is a Mongrel Iron produced by the Burke Golf Company of Newark, Ohio, as part of their Special line endorsed by professional golfer Harry Vardon. The clubhead is constructed from Monel Metal, a nickel-copper alloy manufactured by Inco known for its rust-resistant properties. The back of the clubhead features several stamped markings including A 3 and SPECIAL at the top. The center contains a script signature reading Harry Vardon above the text TOTTERIDGE, referring to the club where Vardon served as the professional. The lower portion is marked MONGREL IRON. To the right of the signature is the script name Burke. On the far left is a triangular manufacturer logo containing the words INCO MONEL METAL with a small O to the left and a small M to the right. The club face features a decorative dash-and-dot scoring pattern. The club is fitted with a traditional tapered hickory wood shaft in a natural finish and a dark brown leather wrap grip secured with black whipping at the base.
