Vintage Dunn & Son One Piece Driver with Bournemouth Shaft Stamp

Stamp on head used by Thomas Dunn while at Bournemouth. The “..& Son” likely refers to John Duncan Dunn. Tom Dunn was the son of Willie Dunn, a player, clubmaker and course architect himself. Tom Dunn was a pro at the Bournemouth Meyrick Park location starting in 1895 for 5 years. After moving from Scotland to America in 1897 John Duncan Dunn (1872-1951), grandson of Willie Dunn, became assistant professional to his uncle Willie Jr. at the Ardsley CC in New York. Three years later, in 1900, he took over as manager of the Bridgeport Gun Implement Company (BGI Co) golf club division. That is where he produced, most notably, the famous 1-piece driver - a patent he had carried with him since 1894. This club was produced with the uncommon Dunn & Son with Bournemouth shaft stamp, on the same piece. There is a lead insert found in the verso, along with an addition to the sole. There is a ram's horn sole insert attached with three unique wooden pegs. It remains in good condition as shown in the accompanying lot photos.
