c.1865 McEwan Long Nose Transitional Era Club
The McEwan family was one of the top clubmakers dating back to as early as the 1770's, a time when feathery balls were still being played. The McEwan's were made up of six club makers with this club representing the fashion of craftmanship only seen with a McEwan. A McEwan crafted club such as this example is expected to draw elevated interest from bidders looking to enhance their hickory club collection.
This circa 1965 long nose transitional era club example includes a rams horn sole insert on the leading edge secured by three unique wooden dowels. Intact is the sheepskin grip to finish this club off. An oblong lead insert is found in the backside of the head. Overall wear is found on head, while the light stain offers welcomed contrast with the dark 'McEWAN' crown stamp. The head length measuring along the sole from tip of the nose to point in which it turns into the hosel is nearly 5" and the face itself is 1 1/8" tall. 41 1/2"
