Walter Hagen Signed 1929 Hagen/Smith vs Jurado/Kinnear at Western G&CC Ticket
Printed on a 'Hagen' golf ball with vibrant red text comes this exhibition signed by the headliner in Walter Hagen himself. It should be no surprise that Walter Hagen chose to team up with Horton smith during this exhibition, as Hagen captained the 1929 Ryder Cup less than two months earlier. That United States team featured a young 20-year-old rookie in Horton Smith that went 1-0 in his Saturday match. At the Western Golf & Country Club Hagen and Smith took on Jose Jurado and Jimmie Kinnear. The Haig's pencil signature is strong, with the texture apparent on both sides. Hagen signed this ticket next to the advertising pitch for his golf ball that reads "Keep your eye on the HAGEN BALL - the ball that helped Walter Hagen win the British Open (1298-1929) and many other championships. The late, great Walter Hagen (1892-1969) was the first giant of American golf, capturing a then record 11 Majors and helped raise professional golf to never previously seen levels. This ticket is in good condition and 3 3/8" diameter. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity comes with this lot.
