Walter Hagen's Personal McCoy Pottery Bruno Pen & Pencil Restaurant Advertising Ceramic Ashtray
This is a mid-20th-century ceramic advertising ashtray once belonging to Walter Hagen and manufactured by McCoy Pottery for Bruno's Pen and Pencil restaurant, a historic steakhouse formerly located on Manhattan's Steakhouse Row in New York City. This ashtray features relief-molded decorative elements, including two stylized pencils along the lateral rims and a central raised scroll at the rear. The body is finished in a green glaze characteristic of McCoy production from this era. The decorative elements are hand-painted over a cream-colored glaze. The use of the two-digit postal zone (N.Y. 17) indicates a production date between approximately 1943 and 1963.
