Wide World Photos Tommy Armour 1931 British Open Carnoustie Press Photograph

An original silver gelatin press photograph produced by Wide World Photos, documenting the 1931 British Open Championship at Carnoustie, Scotland. The image features Hall of Fame golfer Tommy Armour (left) and J. Jolly (right) walking across the course in period golf attire, including flat caps, sweaters, and knickers, accompanied by caddies. This vintage print was produced concurrently with the event. The reverse of the photograph contains a typed press label with the credit line "PHOTO FROM WIDE WORLD PHOTOS" and reference number 736673. The caption identifies the golfers and notes that the tournament resulted in Armour's British Open victory. The label is dated 6/9/31. Additional markings on the reverse include a blue ink date stamp "JUN 12 1931," a purple ink stamp reading "DEAD," and a mirrored ink transfer of the "WIDE WORLD PHOTOS" stamp at the top edge. Handwritten ink marks on the label include an arrow pointing toward "(LEFT)" and a scribble near the name "J. Jolly.".
