c.1870's Jamie Anderson Long Nose Driving Putter
Before you is the work of renown St Andrews clubmaker Jamie Anderson preserved to very good condition. Anderson produced a successful playing career as he won the Open Championship on three occasions, all consecutive from 1877 until 1879. His son James would also become a clubmaker and later joined David Blyth to form Anderson & Blyth. This high-grade example carries a ram's horn sole insert affixed by three unique wooden dowels. There is a lead weight head insert in back. Of significance, there is a strong crown stamp 'J. ANDERSON' with each letter legible. The splice neck has a miniscule chip in ram's horn insert only noticeable when running finger over it and noted merely for accuracy purposes. It is topped off with a leather grip showing wear and end of whipping string coming off. The face height is just 1 1/4," with 4 1/4" from toe to end of crown head (top of head toe to turn in hosel). It measures 42 1/2" from the top of the grip to the bottom of the heel. If this important Scottish maker isn't in your collection yet, this is a choice representative.
