c.1895 John Dunn BGI One Piece with BGI Shaft Stamp
A rare John D. Dunn BGI One-Piece driver with hickory head and shaft made from just one piece of wood is presented here. This club dates from late 1890s to 1903. The shaft and head of the club are made from one piece of wood. Shaft is stout and relatively straight, however it is repaired as shown. It is over 115 years old. B.G.I. was one of the 1st three Golf Club Makers in America-starting about 1898 & ending mysteriously in less than 10 years. They were a creative company & made quality golf clubs. 'B.G.I. Co. Trade Mark' is stamped on the head. B.G.I. stands for Bridgeport Gun Implement Co., so yes they started off making guns and other related equipment. Progressive and ahead of their time, this high quality workmanship is prevalent in this club. Their elegant design is apparent in their scareneck woods. Also observable is the lion cleek mark.
