With astounding clarity, wide-rang-of value of darks and lights, unimprovable framing of the composition and of course unbeatable subject matter comes this c.1900 Open Championship at St Andrews. Both Tom Morris (left looking on), Harry Vardon (addressing ball at tee box) and Alex 'Sandy' Herd in the light jacket (right looking on) depicted. This iconic image was made into prints, postcards, 'Photo by Dormie St Andrews' 'Please return to cossenel & Cromb(sp.)' is found on the verso. Harry Vardon won a record six Open Championships while also embarking on the Vardon Invasion of the United States in 1900 winning the US Open while promoting his Vardon Flyer golf ball for Spalding. Tom Morris, of just as much significance, is watching Vardon as he tees off in front of the St Andrews Royal and Ancient clubhouse. This PSA encapsulated #84170756 is deemed to have been off the original negative approximately a decade later as a Type 2 photo. 7" x 9 1/2"
