c.1912 A.G. Spalding and Bros. Seely Patent Hosel Gold Medal Iron Golf Club
A vintage A.G. Spalding and Bros. Gold Medal line iron golf club featuring the distinctive Seely Patent design. The club is constructed with a hand-forged steel head featuring a dot-punched face pattern. The Seely Patent, dated May 14, 1912, is evidenced by the unique hosel attachment where the metal head is joined to the hickory wood shaft via a long, spliced scarf joint secured with metal pins and an integral protective sleeve.
The reverse of the club head bears several stamped markings including a central oval containing Spalding Gold Medal flanked by two shamrock symbols. Directly below the oval is the text Seely Patent Pat'd May 14, 1912. A vertical stamp on the far left reads Hand Forged and Reg. U.S. Pat. Off. accompanied by a hammer and anvil graphic. The hickory wood shaft is incised with the manufacturer name and line A.G. Spalding and Bros. Gold Medal. 37 1/2"
