c.1928 Hand-Painted Frosted Glass Golf Theme Table Lamp Signed by Artist T May
This vintage table lamp features a slender, ovoid-shaped frosted glass body decorated with a continuous hand-painted scene. The artwork depicts a historical golf landscape with figures in late 19th-century attire. An inscription at the base of the scene identifies the subject as C. B. Macdonald St. Andrews 1894, referring to the influential figure in American golf, Charles Blair Macdonald. The opposite side of the glass body bears a hand-painted signature that appears to read T. May followed by the date 1928. The figures and landscape are executed in a tonal palette of greens, browns, and ochre. The glass is mounted on a decorative cast metal base with four scrolled feet and a dark patinated finish. The top of the glass is fitted with a matching metal cap and a pinecone-style finial. The lamp includes a modern brown two-prong electrical cord. 4 1/2" x 16 1/2"
