John Jackson of Perth Feather Ball Era Short Spoon (Circa 1830's)- Pristine Condition
For the discerning collector who has waited for the best of the best in a John Jackson club to finally come. Your day has arrived. One word description would suffice 'Magnificent'. To earn this review the 'Short Spoon' as inscribed by Jackson on the sole displays limited use, no player has caused damage to the face of this club lending to a condition assessment that this is the closest a Jackson will ever come to a mint condition head. A previous owner has cut as little as 1/8" of the top of the shaft lending to a measurement of 39 1/2" to the heel. This short spoon is a superbly conserved example. The head bears its original resin varnish finish. The shaft is a stout but of hickory, as typical of short spoons, and bears a superbly preserved sheepskin grip with control wound pitched cord. Once the property of the Duke of Athol, it was one of nine superbly maintained long nose woods by this master craftsman. This club was sold in 1987 as the key element of "The Set". Today it stands alone as a tribute to what is universally recognized as among the scarcest and condition sensitive of all John Jackson clubs to locate.
