Payne Stewart Signed Official Used 1998 Michelob Championship 3rd Rd Scorecard
Payne Stewart was one of the most popular golfers in the 1990's decade. The combination of his energetic personality and his flashy wardrobe of ivy caps and plus fours or knickerbockers drew the fans in. Stewart won the 1999 US Open, his 3rd Major, just 4 short months before his untimely death in a plane crash in South Dakota at the age of 42. In 2001 he was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. Here is a used scorecard from the third round of the 1998 Michelob Championship, in which contestant Stewart shot a 4-under 67 for a 204 total. Stewart eagled the 538 yard par 5 third hole and shot a 31 on the back nine. This 3rd round of the 1998 Michelob Championship took place at Kingsmill in 1998, the year prior to Stewart's tragic accident. Interestingly the date is typed incorrect on the card as 10/01/00. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authentication comes with this lot.
