Gene Sarazen's Personal 1969 Americans of Italian Descent Exemplar Award Plaque

Gene Sarazen's Italian heritage was important to him, as his parents were underprivileged Sicilian immigrants. Gene was born with the name Eugenio Saraceni and changed his name to Gene Sarazen after seeing it in the newspaper - published for getting a hole-in-one. To him Eugenio Saraceni sounded like a violinist more than a golfer. Gene Sarazen it was! That is the name that is engraved on this personally 'Exemplar' awarded plaque from 1969 from the American's of Italian Descent personifying the rich heritage of Italian 'Greats.' A signed letter of provenance from Mary Ann Sarazen will come with this lot. 8" x 10" x 1"
