Phil Mickelson was not on any expert's radar entering the 2021 PGA Championship. In fact it was a more improbable triumph than the iconic final major wins of Jack and Tiger in many ways. Las Vegas set +25000 odds for the nearly 51-year-old who had recently made a soft transition to the Champions Tour. It was clear that very few, other than himself and caddie/brother Tim believed it was even possible, and Phil preferred it that way. Similar to the aforementioned gentlemen in their final major win, along with a supportive family there was one big thing in his favor. The on-hand gallery was vocally behind their golfing hero. There was even a moment in which they were physically behind him as well. Droves of enthusiastic fans donning pastel shirts followed him up the 18th fairway on Sunday as he hit is final putts en route to being crowned the oldest major winner in the history of golf. This fan reaction put the magnitude of the moment in perspective. At 50 years, 11 months and 8 days Phil Mickelson was senior to fellow major victors than Julius Boros, Old Tom Morris and Jack Nicklaus. Mickelson signed this embroidered white flag in black marker, resulting in an ideal example.
