Lot #20: Mickey Wright's 10K Gold LPGA Winner’s Medal 1959 Alliance Machine Intl. Championship

Description

Mickey Wright's 10K Gold LPGA Winner’s Medal 1959 Alliance Machine International Championship

This is the first known Mickey Wright LPGA Winner’s Medal to come to the auction marketplace and we’re honored to have been chosen to offer this museum quality and early Mickey Wight LPGA Championship Medal.

Considered by many historians and fellow golfers to be the Greatest Female Golfer of All-Time (GOAT), Mickey was the winner of 13 Major Championships, 69 LPGA Tour wins, and considered by Ben Hogan as having the best golf swing he ever saw, man or woman! She won four (4) U.S. Women’s Opens and four (4) LPGA Championships in her career. She retired at the age of 34 in 1969 due to her aversion to flying and a foot issue only to stage a comeback in 1973 when she won the Dinah Shore before retiring once and for all.

Mickey Wright was presented this beautiful 10k Gold Winner’s Medal by the LPGA for winning the 1959 Alliance Machine International Championship held at the Alliance Country Club in Alliance, Ohio. This marked Mickey Wright’s 10th LPGA tournament win. This beautiful medal is marked 10k gold, is engraved on the front with “Alliance C.C. 1959” and on reverse with “Alliance Machine International Championship” and “Champion 1959 Mickey Wright.” The medal is also part of a larger ribbon presentation all of which has been kept in wonderful condition over the years. This medal will be accompanied with The Golf Auction Certificate of Authenticity verifying this medal indeed belonged to golf great - Mickey Wright.

Mickey is one of four individuals to be honored with their own exhibition room at the USGA Museum joining Bobby Jones, Arnold Palmer, and Jack Nicklaus. The U.S. Women’s Open medal has recently been renamed in her honor and redesigned with an image of her iconic swing. This museum and investment quality gold winner’s medal is a must have for any of the world’s greatest golf collections. Gold medal is 1 1/2" diameter, ribbon is 6 1/2" in length.
