1929 Ryder Cup Match at Moortown Leeds Ltd Ed 22/100 Commemorative Program
Vibrantly colorful, historically accurate and the next best thing to the near impossible acquisition of an original program is this limited edition 1929 Ryder Cup Match at Moortown Leeds hand-numbered #22/100 Commemorative Program. The 1929 biennial matches would be the first of many passings of Samuel Ryder's Cup trophy from one team to the other in the back and forth for national and eventually continental team supremacy. This program features the crossing of the two flags on the cover sitting atop a Dunlop Maxfli golf ball add with depictions of both their mesh and dimple lines. Inside is the telling 'Introduction and Short History of last "Ryder" Cup Match' (the only one) followed by the players from both sides of the isle including Playing Captain Walter Hagen for the United States and Playing Captain George Duncan for Great Britain. Throughout are time-period both local and international advertisements for golf equipment, a restaurant, etc.
At the infancy of The Great Depression, the visiting US Team would be taxed with raising money for their international travels themselves in 1929, as they already had commitments from the USGA and Bobby Jones. This duo planned an exhibition match for the cause. The US team would go on lose to Great Britain 7-5 after cold, snow, and hail pelted Moortown golf course. It was the first British win, a proper defense of home soil. Please note that this 1929 Ryder Cup Match at Moortown Leeds Ltd Ed #22/100 Commemorative Program, is not an original program, but a limited facsimile collectors edition produced by Fine Golf Books.
