1938 Art Deco Sterling Silver Golf Trophy Captains Prize
This trophy was awarded as the Uttoxeter Golf Club’s Captain’s prize in 1938.
The original Uttoxeter Golf Club dates from 1894. Bramshall became the location of the club in 1927 and resided there until after WWII when it ceased to exist.
The inscription is “ Uttoxeter Golf Club, Captains Prize, 1938, Captain, H. B. Griffin, Winner V. Cartwright
This trophy stands approximately 10 inches tall on its base to the top of the removable lid.
It features twin art deco handles, and bears a Sheffield hallmark for 1938 ( crown, anchor and Letter V) on both the body of the trophy and the inside rim of the lid.
When the trophy and lid are removed from its base and weighed separately, we have an impressive 524 grams of sterling silver.
Overall a beautiful display trophy with significant sterling content and perhaps one of the only remaining artifacts from an old Staffordshire course of days gone by. 7 1/2" x 10 3/4"
