1956 USGA Open Championship Sterling Sectional Qualifying Low Scorer Medal
This medal was awarded to Bill Trombley, Dallas professional at Brook hollow, for the lowest sectional qualifying score of 137. He would combine a 69 at Lakewood with a 68 at the Dallas Athletic Club for his 137 total.
He would move on to Winged Foot for the 1956 Championship with 37 other qualifiers from the section including notables Arnold Palmer and Billy Casper.
Cary Middelcoff would win at Winged Foot with a 72-hole score of 281 (+1), defeating Ben Hogan and Julius Boros by one stroke.
This sterling medal features the USGA eagle to the front and the back reads “1956, Open Championship, Sectional Qualifying Rounds, Dallas, Low Scorer, Bill Trombley, 137” . It was crafted by The Robbins Co. and weighs 17.4 grams
