1960 U.S. Open Championship Official Souvenir Program Cherry Hills Country Club
This lot features an original official souvenir program for the 60th United States Open Championship, conducted by the United States Golf Association. The tournament was held June 16, 17, and 18, 1960, at Cherry Hills Country Club in Denver, Colorado. The front cover displays a color photograph of the clubhouse with a prominent tree in the foreground. Interior contents include a full-color fold-out map and painting of the course layout by William Travis, titled Scene of the 60th National Open Championship, accompanied by a detailed list of hole yardages and par ratings for the 7,004-yard, par 71 course.
The program contains illustrated historical articles covering the 1st National Open Championship (won by Horace Rawlins in 1895), the 2nd National Open Championship (won by James Foulis in 1896), and a recap of the 59th Championship won by Bill Casper Jr. at Winged Foot. A dedicated feature section focuses on the career of Robert T. Jones, Jr. The publication remains in ex-mt condition (slight ding to upper left corner) with individual pages in similar condition to day of issuance some 66 years ago. Probably no need to mention it was one of Arnold Palmer's most memorable career wins for those that have read this far.
