1962 Oakmont CC Royal Doulton Royal Doulton Bone China Trophy Plate w/ Silver Rim
Fresh to the hobby is this recent discovery at a Goodwill of all places. Similar to the stories you hear on the news, this from the golf memorabilia world - this time in Galion, Ohio three hours west of Oakmont CC. The decorative high-end Royal Doulton plate was engraved with Oakmont's interlocking logo and dating to the year in which Jack Nicklaus would capture his first pro win and major at the 1962 US Open! Here is a fabulous 1962 Oakmont Country Club Invitational prize China plate made by Royal Doulton. Engraved along the silver outer edge of the plate are the words “1962 Invitational” along with the OCC logo. Oakmont also hosted the U.S. Open in 1962 and a young man from Ohio won it all - Jack Nicklaus. We have not seen this item or anything like it before - with the most unlikely of stories. Roughly 11” in diameter.
