1967 Ryder Cup Badge/Clip Issued to Harry Weetman
This piece was produced as a personal commemorative item for the legendary British professional golfer Harry Weetman for the 1967 Ryder Cup, which was held at Champions Golf Club in Houston. The front of the clip is inscribed with the year 1967 and the name Harry Weetman. The central medallion is decorated with multi-color enameling in red, white, and blue, featuring the text Team Championship and British and American P.G.A. Ryder-Cup. The reverse of the clip is stamped with the manufacturer marks emmcmahon inc and plagoro, along with the location Houston, Texas. Harry Weetman was a prominent figure in the history of the Ryder Cup, having played in seven matches and served as the British captain in 1965. This item represents a significant piece of golf history with direct player provenance. The item exhibits overall surface scratching and minor handling wear to the metal consistent with age and use. There are slight creases to the clip and minor oxidation is visible around the decorative scrollwork of the central medallion. The enamel remains largely intact and vibrant with only minor age-related dulling.
