This collection comprises five hardbound volumes detailing the history, instruction, and culture of golf. The most significant item is a first edition of Dai Rees on Golf, published by Gerald Duckworth and Company Ltd., London, 1959. This octavo volume, bound in green publisher's cloth, features a personal inscription on the front free endpaper: To Edd Riechle, Best Wishes Sincerely Dai Rees. Dec. 1960. A separate inscription is present below: Edd. It has been great playing with you and to have had the pleasure of knowing you and your wife. Best of luck always Jack. Christmas 1960.
The collection also includes A New Way to Better Golf by Alex J. Morrison, published by Simon and Schuster, New York, 1932. Stated as a third printing, it is bound in yellow cloth with a black line illustration of a golfer on the front board. Included is Douglas B. Wesson's I'll Never Be Cured and I Don't Much Care, illustrated by Wyncie King and published by J. H. Sears and Company, Inc., New York, 1928. This octavo volume retains its original illustrated green dust jacket.
The group also contains This Game of Golf by Henry Cotton, a fifth impression published by Country Life Limited, London, in 1949, featuring numerous photographic plates and its original dust jacket. Finally, the lot includes Early Golf by Steven J.H. van Hengel, a second revised edition published by Frank P. van Eck Publishers, Liechtenstein, 1985. This large quarto volume focuses on the Dutch origins of the sport and includes its original illustrated dust jacket.
