A Group of Early 20th Century Golfing Accessories and Memorabilia
This collection includes a metal scorecard holder, a miniature golf bag with clubs, and a letterpress printing block.
The scorecard holder is made of brass-toned metal with a high-relief repousse decoration on the front cover depicting a male golfer in knickerbockers and a cap in mid-swing. The background features a detailed golf course landscape with trees and hills. The interior contains a three-part hinge mechanism holding an original paper scorecard. The scorecard is printed with fields for Date, Where played, and Name of Opponent, with a scoring grid for 18 holes. The date line is printed as 190_, indicating production between 1900 and 1909. A slim, silver-tone mechanical pencil with a ball finial is included and functions as a locking pin when placed through the exterior hinge loops.
The second item is a miniature novelty golf bag crafted from silver-tone metal. The cylindrical bag is decorated with beaded bands at the top and bottom and features a curved handle and a secondary clip. It is accompanied by several miniature metal golf clubs with pointed shafts. No hallmarks or maker's marks are visible.
The third item is a vintage letterpress printing block or cliche. It consists of a metal plate mounted to a wooden base. The top features a color illustration of a cartoon-style golfer wearing a red jacket and yellow plus-fours. The reverse side holds the corresponding raised metal relief image used for printing.
