Antique James Brine Co. 2A Baxpin Mashie Hickory Shaft Golf Club
Mashie iron, featuring a specialized deep-groove face design. The clubhead is constructed of iron and features a series of deep horizontal grooves across the face, a design known as a bakspin or backspin face intended to generate high spin rates. The back of the clubhead is impressed with several identifying marks. The word SPECIAL is stamped vertically on the left side. A central shield-shaped logo is topped with the words WARRANTED FOR. Within the top portion of the shield is the name JAMES BRINE above a stylized monogram. A decorative ribbon integrated into the shield contains the words ATHLETIC and SUPPLIES. The lower point of the shield bears the text BOSTON, MASS. and CAMBRIDGE, MASS. Along the bottom edge of the clubhead is the model designation 2A BAXPIN MASHIE. The club is fitted with a tapered hickory shaft and a traditional leather-wrapped grip.
