Arnold Palmer Signed 1978 PGA Championship at Oakmont C.C. Program
Oakmont and 'The King' have a history together. “I was just a kid when I beat Jack Benson there to win the 1949 Western Pennsylvania Amateur" recalls Palmer. It is also the site where the changing of the guards occurred as he and Jack Nicklaus faced in an infamous duel at the 1962 US Open resulting in Jack's first Major victory. Palmer recalls that Jack in fact beat him by 17 shots on the greens, which is no surprise since Oakmont was the catalyst for the creation of what is now called the Stimpmeter. The 1978 PGA Championship was the 60th PGA Championship played August 3-6 at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pennsylvania. John Mahaffey won the championship in a sudden-death playoff over Jerry Pate and Tom Watson. Arnold Palmer has signed this great condition program from the 1978 championship held at Oakmont. James Spence Authentication paperwork comes with this lot.
