Babe Ruth, Bob Hope, Craig Wood & Vic Ghezzi Signed 1942 Exhibition Golf Match Ticket w/ Original Photo - Framed
Fielding the all-century shortlist of both sportsmen and entertainer signatures is this matted and framed 1942 Exhibition ticket, Babe and Bob in of course Babe Ruth and Bob Hope. The prior year's 1941 major winners, both Masters and PGA champions, Craig Wood and Vic Ghezzi split up to play with Ruth and Hope. It was a War Effort Exhibition Golf Match benefiting both the Navy and Army Emergency Relief. The patrons flocked to Forest Hill Field Club in Bloomfield, New Jersey, on Saturday, June 13, 1942 to see their heroes. The vertical admission ticket features four fountain pen signatures: baseball legend Babe Ruth, actor and comedian Bob Hope (part of the World Golf Hall of Fame as a contributor), major winners and tough signatures Craig Wood and Vic Ghezzi, whose signatures appear vertically on the left and right margins respectively.
The display includes two black-and-white photographs related to the match, with the photo to the right and original photo of Ruth, Hope and Wood in conversation. The larger upper photograph depicts the four participants standing together on the golf course with clubs. A brass-tone metal plaque is mounted at the bottom reading "BABE RUTH, CRAIG WOOD, BOB HOPE AND VIC GHEZZI WAR EFFORT EXHIBITION GOLF MATCH." The items are housed in a dark wood frame with a gold-tone inner lip and double-matted in forest green and white. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity (ALOA) comes with this lot.
